Electronic Health Records (EHR)
are also known as Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
EHR is here. Why wait to convert and lose increased reimbursement and partial/full cost recovery.
The Affordable Care Act of 2010 mandates that all medical practices evolve into the use of electronic health records (EHR) if you will be
dealing with any government funded plan—Medicare and the
Medicaid programs available through each state.
By January 1, 2015 your practice will need to utilize an EHR system in order to receive reimbursement from federal sources without a financial penalty.
Through 2014, the federal government will reimburse a portion of your costs for making a changeover, and as an incentive to practices that
have activated an EHR system, Medicare and Medicaid programs will reimburse at a slightly higher rate for the services that you provide.
Reimbursements and incentives will gradually disappear through 2014
and in the year 2015, there will be no more subsidies.
